About
Rapture Surfcamps has been running surf holidays since 2003, and its Padang Padang camp puts guests about 500 metres from one of Bali’s most famous reef breaks. Rather than a one-off lesson, the camp packages coaching, accommodation, meals and yoga into a stay, which suits travellers who want to make real progress over several days while living alongside other surfers.
The Bukit location is the big advantage. Within a few minutes’ drive you have Padang Padang, Baby Padang, Bingin, Impossibles, Dreamland and Uluwatu, so coaches can pick the right spot for each level and each tide. Accommodation ranges from shared dorms and private rooms to bungalows and villas, all with secure board storage, and the social atmosphere is a big part of the appeal.
What to expect
Lessons are split into three levels. Level 1 beginners learn to paddle, pop up and ride whitewater before moving on to green waves, usually at gentler spots such as Baby Padang or Dreamland. Level 2 focuses on turns and reading waves, while Level 3 is guided surfing at reef and point breaks including Bingin and Padang Padang itself. The camp says its instructors are ISA-certified and have many years of local experience. Daily yoga takes place in an open-air studio in the garden.
Outside lesson time, the camp is designed for downtime: hammocks, a pool area and communal dining make it easy to meet other guests, compare sessions and plan the next day’s surf together.
Packages & prices
Prices are not published as a flat rate; they depend on room type, season and the number of nights, and are quoted through Rapture’s online booking system. Stays include breakfast every day and dinner Monday to Friday, with barbecue and pizza nights part of the rotation. The minimum stay is one night. Check the website for current offers and for the sister camp at Green Bowl, also on the Bukit.
- Room types – dorms, private rooms, private bungalows, luxury villas.
- Included – surf coaching by level, daily yoga, breakfast daily, dinner on weekdays.
- Levels – beginner, intermediate and advanced guiding.
Safety & requirements
The Bukit’s waves break over shallow coral reef, so the coaches match spots to ability and tide; beginners should never paddle out at the main Padang Padang break. Wear a rash vest and reef booties if you have them, and treat coral cuts promptly as they infect easily in the tropics. Travel insurance that covers surfing is strongly recommended.
Tips
- Dry season (roughly April–October) brings the most consistent swell to the Bukit’s west-facing reefs.
- Book at least three nights to see meaningful progress in your surfing.
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a hat; the midday sun on the water is intense.
- Surfers on a budget can pick a dorm bed and still get the full coaching programme.
- Use the free time to visit Uluwatu Temple at sunset.
