Uluwatu or Ubud? Canggu or Sanur? Here’s how to choose the right base for your first Bali trip.
Bali is small on the map but big on personality — and where you stay shapes your whole trip. Here’s a quick guide to the main areas.
Uluwatu — for surf, cliffs and sunsets
Dramatic cliffs, beach clubs and surf breaks. Great for couples and surfers; you’ll want a scooter or driver.
Canggu — for cafés and a social scene
Specialty coffee, co-working spaces and beach bars. Busy, fun and young.
Seminyak — for style and dining
Boutique shopping, fine dining and polished beach clubs. Easy to get around on foot.
Ubud — for culture and nature
Rice terraces, temples, yoga and food. Stay at least three nights.
Sanur & Nusa Dua — for calm and families
Gentle beaches, resorts and easy boat trips to the Nusa islands.
Our tip: split your stay between the coast and Ubud for the best of both.
