Taman Safari Bali

Taman Safari Bali, formerly known as Bali Safari & Marine Park, opened in November 2007 and is run by the Taman Safari Indonesia group, which operates wildlife parks across the country. The park covers around 40 hectares on the Ida Bagus Mantra bypass in Gianyar and is home to more than a thousand animals from over 100 species, drawn from Indonesia, India and Africa.

It stands out from Bali’s smaller zoos for its scale and variety of experiences. You can ride through open enclosures of zebras, lions and rhinos on a safari tram, watch the large-scale Bali Agung theatre performance, splash in a water-play zone and even stay overnight at the Africa-themed Mara River Safari Lodge. The park is a member of the IUCN Conservation Planning Specialist Group and the Indonesian Zoological Parks Association, and its collection includes rare and endangered species such as Komodo dragons, orangutans and Bali starlings.

What to expect

The core experience is the Safari Journey, a guided tram ride through Indonesian, Indian and African habitats. On foot you will find educational presentations featuring tigers, elephants and other animals, plus a fun zone for kids. Bali Agung is a large-scale theatrical show built around Balinese culture and legend. After dark, the Night Safari reveals nocturnal behaviour, with a walk-in section and an African fire-dance show. Dining options include the Tsavo Lion Restaurant, which offers dining with animal views.

• Elephant Safari, IDR 1,250,000 / IDR 1,000,000: unlimited and express-line safari journeys, photo with an animal and a 30-minute elephant safari.
• Rhino Package, IDR 1,750,000 / IDR 1,500,000: adds lunch at Tsavo Lion Restaurant and Water Play Zone.

Prices above are for international visitors. Children are 3–12 years; under-3s are infants. Domestic rates are lower.

Safety & requirements

Stay seated inside the tram at all times and do not feed animals except in designated feeding sessions. Bring sun protection and water, much of the park is exposed. Check age and height limits for water play and animal encounters when booking.

Tips

Arrive at opening for the first Safari Journey, when animals are most active and it is cooler. Check the daily schedule online to plan around presentation and Bali Agung show times. The Night Safari is a memorable add-on for families staying in Ubud or Sanur. If you are travelling with young children, consider a night at the Mara River Safari Lodge, where park access is included.

Families can easily spend a full day here: combine a morning Safari Journey with the animal presentations and a lunch break, then catch Bali Agung in the afternoon. If you choose one of the higher packages, you get unlimited and express-line safari rides, which is useful on busy weekends and during school holidays.
