About Amed
Amed is a string of fishing villages along Bali's far east coast in Karangasem, with Mount Agung rising behind. Colourful jukung outrigger boats line the black-sand bays, and some villages still make sea salt the traditional way.
The calm water and coral close to shore make it one of Bali's best places to snorkel and dive, with the USAT Liberty wreck at nearby Tulamben.
The Amed coast runs for about 14 kilometres along the north side of the Seraya peninsula in Abang District, taking in the villages of Amed, Jemeluk, Bunutan, Lipah, Lehan, Selang, Banyuning, Aas and Kusambi. Jemeluk Bay has a coral wall and a coral garden just off the beach, and the Pyramids dive site lies less than a kilometre away at depths of 15 to 22 metres. At Banyuning, the Japanese Wreck sits in shallow water of around 6 to 12 metres. The Liberty wreck at Tulamben is about 12 kilometres north-west of Amed village. Beaches here are black volcanic sand from nearby Mount Agung, and the area suits divers, snorkellers and anyone looking for a slower pace.
