About
Bambu is a dinner-only restaurant on Jalan Petitenget that sets out to celebrate both Indonesian food and Indonesian design. It serves authentic dishes drawn from across the archipelago in a setting of open-air pavilions, reflecting ponds and a traditional carved wooden joglo, all softly lit by candles once darkness falls.
It is the kind of place you choose when the evening matters: an anniversary, a family celebration or the last night of a holiday. Despite being steps from one of Seminyak’s busiest roads, the water gardens and low lighting create a surprisingly peaceful mood, and service is attentive without being stiff.
The food
The kitchen focuses on well-executed Indonesian cooking rather than fusion. Dishes span the islands, from Balinese roasts and spice-rubbed grills to Javanese-style sambals and rice dishes, with an emphasis on proper spice pastes and slow cooking. For groups, set menus of four courses start from IDR 600,000++ per person, a simple way to sample a wide range without puzzling over the menu.
Signature dishes
- Slow-roasted betutu duck – the Balinese classic, rubbed with spice paste and cooked until tender
- Grilled tiger prawns – smoky and generous
- Spicy tofu sambal – a vegetarian favourite with real heat
- Nasi goreng – a refined take on Indonesia’s national dish
The space
Seating is spread across several levels: downstairs tables close to the water, an upstairs dining area, and the joglo, a traditional Javanese wooden pavilion that makes a striking setting for larger parties. Group dining is available for up to 60 guests, and the team can build menus for private events. The whole venue is designed to show off Indonesian craftsmanship, from the timber work to the lanterns.
Tips for your visit
- Bambu opens only for dinner, from 18:00 – arrive around opening time for the most atmospheric light.
- Book ahead via the website, email or WhatsApp, especially for pond-side tables.
- Ask about the group menus if you are four or more; they make ordering easy.
- Mosquito repellent is useful for the outdoor, water-side seating.
- Petitenget traffic peaks around sunset, so allow extra time by car.
Why it stands out
Plenty of Seminyak restaurants serve Indonesian dishes, but few put as much thought into the setting as Bambu. The design draws on traditional Indonesian craft – timber pavilions, water features, lantern light – so the evening feels rooted in place rather than imported. The menu follows the same approach, favouring recognisable regional classics over reinvention, cooked carefully and presented with polish.
That makes it a reassuring pick for visitors who want an authentic flavour of Indonesia without the heat and bustle of a street-side warung, and for hosts looking to impress overseas guests. Groups planning a celebration can speak to the reservations team about set menus and the joglo, which is well suited to rehearsal dinners, milestone birthdays and company gatherings.
For an Indonesian dinner that feels like an occasion without being formal, Bambu is one of Seminyak’s most romantic options.

Getting there
Bambu sits on Jalan Petitenget in Kerobokan Kelod, the restaurant strip between Seminyak and the Petitenget beach clubs. Central Seminyak is about 5–10 minutes away and Canggu around 25–30 minutes. Grab and taxis can drop at the entrance; evening traffic on Petitenget is slow, so leave extra time.
