Bodyworks Spa

Long before Seminyak filled up with beach clubs and concept stores, Bodyworks was already kneading out knots on a quiet lane off Jalan Petitenget. The family-owned spa opened in 1994 and is widely regarded as the island’s first true day spa, the kind of place where you can drop in after lunch for a massage and walk out with fresh nails, a blow-dry and a new outlook on the afternoon. More than three decades on, it remains independent and locally run, which shows in the easy, familiar way the staff greet regulars.

The building feels like a tropical townhouse rather than a hotel spa: treatment rooms are tucked away from the street, and the mood is hushed enough to let you drift off. What sets Bodyworks apart is breadth. Few places in Seminyak cover massage, body rituals, facials, a full nail bar and a hair salon under one roof, and the late closing time makes it one of the easiest spas to fit around a busy holiday.

Treatments

The menu is organised into massages, body treatments, doTERRA AromaRituals, facials, nail care, hair care and multi-treatment packages. Massages range from a classic Balinese full-body session with long, flowing strokes to firmer deep-tissue work for surfers and gym-goers. Body treatments include scrubs and wraps followed by a soak in a petal-strewn flower bath, while the hair salon is a local favourite for a Balinese cream bath, a nourishing scalp and hair mask worked in with a neck and shoulder massage.

• Marine Collagen and Caviar Facial, an anti-ageing, deeply hydrating facial that suits sun-tired skin.

The space

Rooms are set within a leafy compound with single and couples’ suites, a dedicated nail and hair area and a relaxed reception where therapists talk through pressure and preferences before you start. Bodyworks also rents out its photogenic interiors for commercial, creative and pre-wedding photoshoots, so it is no surprise that the space looks good on camera. It is calm without being precious, you will see locals in for a quick pedicure alongside visitors booked in for a full package.

Booking tips

Book a day or two ahead in high season (July–August and Christmas–New Year), especially for evening slots and couples’ rooms. Reservations can be made by WhatsApp, phone or by email to the bookings desk. Prices are quoted plus tax and service, so budget roughly 20% on top of the menu price. Gift vouchers are sold on site and online, making Bodyworks an easy present for friends visiting Bali. If you want both a treatment and a hair appointment, ask the team to sequence them so you finish with the blow-dry.
