Prana Spa

Prana Spa is Seminyak at its most theatrical. Set on Jalan Kunti, the spa is built like a Moorish palace, with carved archways, lantern-lit corridors, Persian carpets and jewel-toned fabrics that make you feel you have wandered into a riad in Marrakech rather than a side street in Bali. It has long been a destination for couples and anyone celebrating a special occasion.

Beyond the décor, Prana’s real speciality is Ayurveda. The spa takes its name from the Sanskrit word for life force and builds its menu around treatments that aim to balance body and mind, from warm-oil therapies to chakra work. This focus, combined with long multi-step rituals that include plunge pools, Vichy showers and milk baths, is what sets it apart from the many quick-massage spots nearby.

Treatments

Single treatments include Balinese and deep-tissue massage, stone therapy, scrubs, wraps and facials, but most guests come for the rituals. These combine several services into a flowing sequence and range from one hour to four. Ayurvedic options are performed by therapists trained in the specific techniques, and the Vichy shower – a horizontal rain shower over a wet table – is used to rinse off scrubs and masks between steps.

Signature rituals

• Shirodhara (60 min) – a steady stream of warm oil poured over the forehead, the classic Ayurvedic treatment for a racing mind.
• Pampering of Prana (180 min) – plunge pools, foot ritual, full body massage, facial and scalp massage.
• Jewel of the Nile (240 min) – stone therapy, chakra treatment, a royal facial and a milk bath.
• Private Suite – a self-contained sanctuary for couples who want their own space for the whole ritual.

The space

Expect domed ceilings, mosaic tiles, low cushioned lounges and warm plunge pools that are part of the longer rituals. Flower baths are prepared in ornate tubs, and the lighting is kept low throughout. The Private Suite is worth the upgrade for anniversaries or honeymoons. It is a spa you visit as much for the atmosphere as for the hands-on work.

Booking tips

Prana is open daily from 09:00 to 21:00. Menu prices exclude 15% government tax and 10% service, so the final bill is noticeably higher than the headline figure. Book at least a few days ahead for the longer rituals and the Private Suite, which are limited to a handful of slots per day. You can reserve online or by WhatsApp via the official website. Allow time before your appointment to settle in, and avoid a heavy meal beforehand if you are having Shirodhara or a long massage. The spa also sells multi-night wellness retreat packages that bundle accommodation and treatments.

If you are short on time, a 60-minute Shirodhara or massage still gives you the full sense of the palace interiors; if you can spare an afternoon, the three- and four-hour rituals are where Prana really shines. Couples should ask for the Private Suite when booking. Arrive in comfortable clothes you do not mind slipping out of, leave jewellery at your hotel, and plan a gentle evening afterwards – the Ayurvedic oil treatments leave hair oily, so a salon blow-dry right after makes little sense.
