Rock Bar Bali at AYANA

Rock Bar is built directly onto the rocks at the base of the limestone cliffs at AYANA Estate in Jimbaran, so waves crash just metres below the deck as you watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean. Open since 2009, it has become one of Bali’s best-known places for a sundowner, and a visit is on many first-timers’ lists.

Guests reach the bar by an inclined lift down the cliff face, arriving at a series of decks and terraces — including the coveted Round Deck — spread across the rock. AYANA added a late-night companion, After Rock, in June 2024 for live music after the sun has gone.

The vibe

Sophisticated and busy. From about 17:00 the decks fill with couples and hotel guests, DJs play mellow sunset sets and the whole bar turns to face the horizon. After dark it’s calmer and easier to get a seat. The Round Deck is reserved for AYANA Villa guests before sunset and opens to everyone afterwards.

Food & drinks

Cocktails are the focus — creations such as the Mistral, Solflame and Moluka sit alongside classics and non-alcoholic options like Malay and Calamansi Jasmine Tea. The tapas-style menu includes oriental chicken wings, maki rolls, curly fries, seared scallops and lobster orzo. After Rock, open 19:00–02:00, adds its own cocktails such as the AYANA Collins and dishes including tuna tataki and crispy shrimp.

Who it suits

Rock Bar is a classic choice for couples, honeymooners and anyone marking a special occasion in Bali. Few bars anywhere put you this close to the ocean, and the combination of the cliff lift, the waves and the sunset makes it memorable even for seasoned travellers. It’s also a good introduction to AYANA Estate, which spans several hotels and many restaurants and bars.

Because it is so popular, the booking system matters. Reservations through TableCheck let you choose the seating type and see the minimum spend in advance; walk-ins can work outside peak season but expect to queue at sunset. If you’d like to continue the evening, the resort’s trams can take you to After Rock for live music and cocktails until 02:00, or to other restaurants within the estate.

Best time to go

Sunset is the reason to go, so aim to arrive around 17:00 in the dry season from April to October, when skies are clearest. After sunset the decks are calmer and the Round Deck opens to all guests. On rough-sea days the bar may adjust operations for safety, so confirm your booking on the day.

Tips for your visit

• Book via TableCheck or AYANA’s website; walk-ins are accepted subject to availability, with queues of around 30 minutes at peak.
• Smart attire — no singlets, swimwear, men’s sleeveless shirts, alcohol-branded clothing or backpacks.
• A 17:00 slot is more comfortable than 16:00, when the sun is fierce and there’s little shade.
• Bring sunglasses and a hat for the pre-sunset glare.
