The Lawn Canggu

The Lawn sits right on Canggu Beach, fronting what the venue describes as Bali’s most notable longboard wave. For around a decade it has been a gathering spot for sunset drinks in Canggu, a green lawn, a pool and rows of daybeds all turned towards the surf.

It is part of the Project Black hospitality group, which handles reservations, and it straddles the line between beach lounge and bar: relaxed in the day, then livelier as DJs and live acts take over in the evening. Ticketed gigs, such as a recent Babe Rainbow show sold through Megatix, add to the programme.

The vibe

Chic but not stuffy. Expect surfers checking the waves, friends sharing plates on the terrace and couples on daybeds watching the sunset. The motto is to start the good times early and stay up late, and weekends in particular build into a party atmosphere.

Food & drinks

The menu is made for grazing: fries, tacos, calamari, fish and chips, burgers, pizza, salads, share plates and desserts. Signature cocktails include the Aperol Slush, a Watermelon Mint Margarita and the Sunset Margarita.

Who it suits

The Lawn is a sweet spot between a beach club and a bar. It suits couples who want a daybed for sunset, friend groups who want to share plates and cocktails on the terrace, and surfers who want to keep an eye on the waves. It is smaller and more intimate than the Berawa mega-clubs, so the atmosphere feels personal even when it’s busy.

As part of the Project Black group, it also carries merchandise through the group’s shop and runs a programme of ticketed events, from live bands to DJ sessions. If you’re visiting in the dry season, book your seat a day or two ahead; minimum spends are clearly set by seating type, so you can choose the level that fits your plans, from a simple terrace seat to a group sofa by the palms.

Best time to go

Late afternoon is prime time: arrive around 16:00 to settle in, watch the evening surf and stay through sunset. Weekends are busiest and most party-focused. In the dry season from April to October the longboard wave in front is usually busy with riders, which adds to the entertainment from your daybed.
