About

Karsa Spa is the reward at the end of one of Ubud’s loveliest walks. The spa sits in the village of Bangkiang Sidem, just beyond the famous Campuhan Ridge, and most guests arrive on foot after a 30-minute stroll along the ridge path through elephant grass and rice fields. There is also a road route via Sanggingan and Payogan, about ten minutes by car or scooter, if you would rather save your legs for the massage.

The spa is built around lotus ponds, water features and tropical planting, with indoor and semi-outdoor treatment rooms decorated in simple Balinese style. Birdsong and the rustle of palms replace piped music. Karsa also puts effort into sustainability: water is salt-treated rather than chlorinated, oils are organic and locally sourced, and wastewater goes through a bio-septic system to protect the surrounding fields. Prices remain notably lower than central Ubud spas.

Treatments

The menu is broad for a small village spa. Massage styles include Balinese, deep tissue, Thai, Shiatsu, Chinese acupressure, reiki combination, injury-focused work, reflexology and a quick seated chair massage. Beyond massage there are organic facials, manicures and pedicures, hair treatments, flower baths, singing bowl therapy and cupping. Therapists are known for adapting pressure and technique to each guest.

Signature rituals

  • Deep Tissue Massage, firm, targeted work for hikers, surfers and desk-bound backs.
  • Shiatsu, Japanese finger-pressure along the meridians, performed clothed or with oil.
  • Reiki combination massage, hands-on energy work blended with gentle massage.
  • Singing bowl therapy, vibration and sound to settle the nervous system.
  • Wellness packages, combinations lasting from 2.5 to 6 hours, often ending with a flower bath.

The space

Open-air pavilions overlook ponds and greenery, so you hear the countryside rather than traffic. Everything is clean and simple, and the neighbouring Karsa Kafe serves light meals, juices and coffee with rice-field views, ideal for refuelling before the walk back. It suits people looking for authenticity and value more than polished luxury.

Booking tips

Book through the appointment link on the official website, especially for weekend afternoons and longer packages. The spa is open 09:00–19:00. If you are walking in, start from the trailhead near Ibah / Warwick Ibah at the bottom of the ridge in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat; bring water and wear shoes suitable for a paved but uneven path. Allow time for lunch at the café. Cash is handy in the village, though ask about card payment when booking.

A good way to plan the day is to set off along the ridge around 07:30, book a 09:00 or 10:00 treatment, then eat at Karsa Kafe before walking or riding back. If it rains, the path can be slippery and there is little shade, so consider taking a car via Sanggingan instead. Couples can book side-by-side in the pavilions, and the longer packages that end with a flower bath are the best value for a proper half-day of pampering.
