About
Rembulan Spa – rembulan means moon in Indonesian – is the kind of reliable neighbourhood spa that makes Ubud such a pleasant place to spend a week. It has two branches right in the centre of town, one on Jalan Hanoman and one on Ubud’s main road, so it is easy to fit a massage in between temple visits, market shopping and café hopping.
The spa describes itself as a calm sanctuary from everyday stress, and it delivers that in a straightforward, unpretentious way. Treatments combine traditional ingredients – local herbs, spices and aromatic oils – with modern techniques, and the prices sit comfortably below resort spas. For many visitors it becomes a regular stop over a longer stay rather than a one-off splurge.
Treatments
The menu covers body massage in several styles – Balinese, deep tissue, Shiatsu and a gentle relaxing massage – as well as body treatments such as scrubs and wraps, foot, hand and neck services, beauty treatments, nail care and spa packages. There is a dedicated reflexology lounge where you can sit back for a foot massage, and a hair treatment area for cream baths.
Signature rituals
- Balinese massage – long, flowing strokes with acupressure and gentle stretching.
- Deep tissue massage – firmer pressure for sore hikers and cyclists.
- Shiatsu – Japanese-style pressure-point work.
- Reflexology – in the reclining lounge, perfect after a day on foot.
- Spa packages – massage, scrub and extras bundled for a longer session.
The space
Both branches are compact and tidy, with cosy treatment rooms, a reflexology lounge, a nail station, a hair treatment area and a small reception. It is simple rather than showy, but clean and calm.
Booking tips
Both branches are open daily 09:00–21:00. Walk-ins are often possible on weekdays, but message on WhatsApp to secure a time in the busy late afternoon, especially for couples. The Hanoman branch can be reached on +62 361 970 733 (WhatsApp +62 812 3792 0213), and the main-road branch on +62 361 976 694 (WhatsApp +62 812 3792 0211). A reflexology session is a good way to end a day of walking around Ubud’s streets.
Rembulan is especially useful for travellers doing a lot of walking in Ubud – a foot reflexology session after a morning at the Monkey Forest or the Campuhan Ridge Walk is hard to beat. Couples can book side-by-side massages, and the spa packages that combine a massage with a scrub or hair treatment are good value compared with a la carte bookings. Both branches are an easy walk from the Ubud Art Market and Ubud Palace, so you can slip in between sightseeing stops without planning your whole day around a treatment. Remember to bring a little cash for tips if you were happy with your therapist – it is appreciated, though never expected.

Getting there
The Hanoman branch is at the top of Jalan Hanoman where it meets Jalan Raya Ubud, a few minutes' walk from Ubud Palace and the art market; the second branch is on the main road nearby. From Seminyak or Canggu, allow 60–90 minutes by car. Central Ubud parking is scarce, so walk or take a scooter.
