Single Fin

Single Fin is the bar most surfers think of when they think of Uluwatu. It hangs off the cliff above Suluban, directly overlooking the world-class left-hand reef break, so from the deck you watch surfers paddle out, drop in and kick out below you while the sun sinks into the Indian Ocean.

The multi-level venue mixes a casual café-bar by day with a pool and ocean-view deck, and it has become a rite of passage for visitors to the Bukit. Named after the classic single-fin surfboard, it wears its surf heritage proudly.

The vibe

Laid-back all day, lively at sunset and properly rowdy on party nights. From 08:00 you can grab breakfast and watch the morning surf; late afternoon brings a crowd of surfers, backpackers and holidaymakers who come for the golden light. Wednesday and Sunday nights turn the deck into a dance floor.

Food & drinks

The menu is built for sharing and sunset snacking: pizzas (roughly IDR 145k–175k), fries, wings, calamari and nachos. The bar pours cold beers, spirits and cocktails, with house pours around IDR 150k.

Who it suits

Single Fin is for anyone who loves surf culture or simply wants one of the best sunset views on the Bukit with a cold drink in hand. Surfers use it to check conditions and celebrate a session; non-surfers come for the spectacle of riders on the Uluwatu reef below. It’s casual enough for a quick drink but has the energy for a full night out on Wednesday and Sunday.

The Sunday Sessions are the stuff of Bali legend, drawing a mixed crowd of locals, expats and travellers who dance until the early hours. If you’re not a party person, visit on another evening or in the morning when the deck is quiet and the swell is lit by soft light. Either way, allow time to explore the Uluwatu cliff path and the cave entrance to the beach nearby.

Best time to go

For the best surf viewing, come in the dry season from April to October, when the Uluwatu reef is at its most consistent. Sunset is the busiest window every day, so arrive around 17:00 to find a railing spot. Wednesday and Sunday are the party nights; any other evening offers a more relaxed drink with the same view.

Tips for your visit

• Reserve regular seating via the online booking system; email for VIP booths or groups over 10.
• Dress freely, but alcohol-branded T-shirts and singlets aren’t allowed.
